Wellness Guide

Through nine editions of The Wellness Guide, Health Research for Action has worked with diverse communities to learn what is important to them and how they want to receive information. The guide covers a broad range of topics about everyday life, such as health care, exercise and nutrition, family life, finances, and employment.

Health Research for Action developed guides for California’s Departments of Mental Health, Social Services, Child Abuse and Prevention Services; the state’s Women, Infants and Children nutrition program (WIC); the University of California Office of the President; and the California Endowment.

To provide information on accessibility and independent living in the 8th edition of The Wellness Guide, Health Research for Action worked with an advisory group of disability leaders. The revised guide, which was developed in English and Spanish, as well as in Braille, audiocassette, and CD, has been distributed to over 300,000 Californians.

Health research for Action worked with an advisory group of Chinese American professionals and conducted more than 23 focus groups with Chinese-speaking Californians to develop the Chinese/English Wellness Guide. Its unique bilingual design is the result of repeated community testing. More than 100,000 guides have been distributed.
